I Made Laundry Soap

Thanks to Trish (she gave me the recipe) I have now successfully made my first batch of laundry soap. Currently it is in a gelatinous state of goo, but after a night of rest I should be able to use it. That means I will be doing at least one load of laundry tomorrow (I know...Sunday...a day of rest)just to try it out. I have posted the recipe in case anyone would like to join me in my penny pinching ways and if there are any other recipes or idea, I would love to hear them.

Laundry Soap

1 bar Fels Naptha soap, grated
4 cups water

Melt the grated soap in the 4 cups of water over medium-low heat on the stove.

1 cup washing soda
2 1/2 gallons HOT water

Place the water and washing soda in a large, clean 5 gallon bucket and stir until combined.

1/2 cup Borax

Put it in the water in the bucket and stir until combined. Pour melted Fels Naptha into the bucket and stir again.

2 gallons HOT water

Again, the water goes into the bucket. Stir and then leave it alone overnight.

I believe Trish said that it takes about 1/2 cup for one load of laundry.

  1. Before I head into the whole beauty routine, just wanted to post an update on the laundry soap. It is currently a 5 gallon bucket of gelatinous, snotty mess. It even has similarities not only in texture, but color. BUT, does it work?
